Rebuild Your Smile with Dental Implants

Struggling with tooth loss? Then you need to learn about dental implant treatment from your Lafayette, LA, dentist, Dr. Ken LeBlanc. Amazingly natural feeling in both functionality and aesthetics, dental implants can give you a permanent solution to tooth loss. Read on to learn more!

How a Dental Implant Works

When people think about a dental implant, they often think about the small metal post that is placed into the jawbone; however, there are other parts that make up a full implant, as well. On top of the implant, you’ll find a structure known as an abutment, which connects the crown with the implant to secure the artificial tooth into place. From there, the false tooth (usually a dental crown) is cemented over the abutment to complete the restoration.

If you are looking to replace multiple teeth with your implants, our Lafayette, LA, implant dentist can also place multiple implants along the arches of the jawbone so as to support your dentures.

The Dental Implant Treatment Process

There are several steps involved in getting a dental implant. These steps include,

  • Implant Placement Surgery: Minor surgery is necessary in order to place the implant into the jawbone—don't worry, the procedure is minimally invasive and completely preformed under discomfort-preventing anesthesia.
  • Osseointegration: Osseointegration is a naturally occurring phenomenon in which the jawbone and tissue heal around the implant, thus fusing together as one permanent fixture.
  • Placing the Abutment: Once osseointegration is complete, we will secure an abutment on top of the implant, leading us into the last step of the process.
  • Fitting the Crown: Crowns are custom-made restorations, so we will need to take impressions of your mouth so that a dental lab can create the piece. Once your gums have had a week to heal from abutment placement, we will cement the crown over the abutment to complete your implant.

Following this procedure, the implant will remain as a permanent replacement for your lost tooth and tooth roots, thereby replacing full functionality and aesthetics, while also preventing any jawbone shrinkage.
